Poetry Detectives

Read the poem 'The Closed School' and then follow the process that we practised earlier.
Then answer the 3 detective questions as a comment on this post:
How is the poet feeling?
Why are they feeling this way?
How do you know?

    How is the poet feeling?

He is feeling sad that the school is closed.

We can tell this by the words he uses such as "stilness of death" and "airless as tombs"

We know this because he describes the school before it closed during the war.

The poet is feeling depressed and lonely.

They are on their own in the cold and it is silent.

Because it says "only deeper than the silence" and "under the silvering light of the cold, tall sky".

The poet is feeling abandonded lost and alone.

Why are they feeling this way?
The poet is feeling like this because he starts to mention the 'stillness of death' he mentions the silence. He is going to feel alone as nobody is there.

    How do you know?
Because the poem says about the cold, the darkness and other things. It says about the tombs and the past. He isnt happy about something that has happened before.
